Default Stock TB -> 52MM bored stock

Quick question for everyone.

My car is a bolt-on cammed car. I was running the original TB for some time being my cam is just a lil guy, but i decided that upping the TB to 52mm wouldnt hurt and for the price i got i couldnt turn it down.

My question is: Do i really need a re-tune when switching from a stock 48mm TB to a CNC bored stock TB that has just been opened up to 52mm's?

MY mechanic/tuner said that because its the stock unit just bored larger than i shouldnt need a re-tune because the TPS[throttle position sensor] shouldn't change at all.

Thanks in advance guys!

I don't think you would need a tune, but throw it on and see how it runs. If it acts up, swap back to the stock one and wait for a re-tune. Swapping TB is only a matter of minutes.

I put 25k miles on my car with a 52mm TB with no tune. Felt a sotp difference immediately, but did not dyno or run at the track. Never had any issues with idling, partial throttle or full throttle performance.
All you are really doing is removing a restriction, since the intake manifold is already 52mm.

Yea it should only take 15-20 minutes max thats the time including drinking a beer or two haha And if it does act up ill swap right back to the stocker. Thanks

Damn 25k miles! haha well then in that case i should be fine haha! Will be swapping it on tonight, and when you say SOTP is it more throttle response or did it feel like it gave you a little top end too?

Thanks guys ill report back tomorrow once its on about how it went!

but remember its not just port open then you're done, you need new wings or blades for the TB to match the new opening size. from 48mm to 52mm.

And just FYI, you can usually find a ported stocker for cheaper than it actually costs to have it done to one of your TB's.

Got mine shipped to my front door for $150 not too bad if you ask me.

There was also another one in the for sale section that was for $150 but i dont think it was shipped.

you would prob want to up the line pressure on your trans to be safe. when you go to a bigger tb the tps will send the same voltage. but your engine rpm will be diff and the line pressure will not be as high as it should.

^ Even if i already have a fully built stalled car? Fresh from the rebuild?

And also im thinking the RPM change will be so minor that it wont really affect it too much.

And line voltage wise you are speaking of just DDing right? Cause if the car is at WOT then the line voltage should be at its max anyway shouldnt it?

at wot the line pressure you will have the same psi but normal driving it will be lower. think of i like a this would you drive your car if the oil psi was on the low side at idle and regular driving and the only time you had good psi was when you had it wot, i know i wouldnt id turn that sucker off. I have a built trans and stall and i still added in the tune for the tb. psi keeps the insides of a trans happy. it may live a while but it would prob live alot longer if you did it right.

T56 clutch hydraulics FTMFL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You gotta love it when you have a new clutch and all new hydraulics and the pedal still sticks to the floor. Ill keep my auto and race it down the track not worrying about missing a gear while still bustin better 60ft times.

My tuner says "no re-tune is needed when stepping up a size in TB".
