Default ATI crank balancer/damper users come in

The hub on the ATI balancer I bought has a keyed slot that the OEM cranksnout does not use. I see this as a source of a possible oil leak. Should I shoot some black silicone into this keyway before I tighten the crankbolt down?

I have mine keyed and haven't had any leaks. The key is tight but not a seal fit. You should be fine. If you want call ati and get the crank pin kit and drill your crank for the key.

I've got a keyed hub on a stock crankshaft, no leaks observed. You can put a dab of silicone under the ARP .250 inch thick washer if leak is a concern. New engine has a machined keyway and will just buy another hub.

Light coat of black silicon on the flat surface of the balancer bolt head sealed it up perfectly for me.

OK next issue went to install it with the Kent Moore installer and the bolt is too dam short. I dont know if it is because the hub of this ATI unit is new but the hub dont go to far onto the crank snout by hand. Sits pretty far off the on the snout and the bolt wont reach far enough into the crank to grab. I'm gonna hit the specialty hardware store tomorrow and try to get a longer bolt I guess.

When I put my hub on I will unbolt the pully from the hub and put the hub in the oven at 220 deg for about a half hour. This will swell the hub and you can TAP it lightly with a rubber mallet and it will seat on easier. One more thing I have tried is my grocery store sells dry ice cheap so I will get a block and hold it on the crank for about 5-10 min while the pully is cooking and that made the pully go right on. Don't over heat the hub due to risk of damage to the timing cover seal.

Almost two years with an ATI and no leaks, but I did drill the crank with the ATI kit.

ARP bolt and washer machining is a very fine finish. Install with ARP lube, no sealer at all. I have not had any leaks with mine and it has been a few years as well. GM bolt has sealer ounder the head (it is not loctite as some believe).

While we are on the subject I purchased the ARP crankbolt and was wondering about torque figure. I will be pinning this with a fixture from ProCharger that I am being loaned.

No . The key way is so for nitrous/sc or high hp u can pin it. It will be fine.

I was given a value of 190 lb-ft by ARP using their lube. I have installed several a that value.

I recently read of two posts where they called ARP and got 235# with moly lube. Haven't called them to verify yet...

I wouldn't pin with that tool when using an ATI damper. The ATI kit installs the pin vertical so it uses the keyway in the hub.
