LT-1Vette wants to start after shut off HELP
My mom has a 96 LT-1 Vette. When she turns the car off, it wants to start itself. The car trys to start untill you put the key in and start it. Then it will turn off. What could this be? Starter?

you probably have a short thats giving the starter power. My guess is one of the ignition wires is shorting it, if it does it while the key is in.check under the car and see if there are any loose or stripped wires touching each other or the starter.

if it was dieseling it would keep running even after the car was off because it would still be burning fuel...but without spark.a hot spot in the cylinder would be causing the fuel to ignite, and then the engine would shut off. OP we need more info on exactly what it does tho....

I have a 96 Vette and the same thing just happen to me a month ago. It turn out to be the starter was not disengaging the flywheel and kept running. It got so bad I had to tap the starter with a hammer to knock it loose. I put a new starter in and it's fixed.

Oddly enough my car started doing this yesterday. I went to start the car and the starter is continuing to try to start the car even after the car fires up. It does if for like 10-15 seconds until I blip the throttle a few times and it stops. I sounds like the starter is not fully disengaging the flywheel. I was thinking about adding a shim to the starter to see if that fixes it.
