Default Good H/C for a 383

I am contemplating going to a 383 the end of this year and am curious what would be a good head/cam package on the stock motor that would compliment the 383? Car will have a ported BBK/LS6 combo and LPP LT's and Y with the magnaflow catback.

I would recommend you look into our stg 2.5 LS6 Heads and Cam package. The heads would be at just the right size to work efficiently on the 346 or the 383. Cam is a little bit different, typically we recommend moving up in camshaft when you are moving up in cubic inch like that.

I am looking for something bigger than normal for the 346 so when I move up to the 383 I won't have to make another change. I am thinking something in the 246/250 range, but i'm not sure how well that is going to work with the 346, cause i don't really want to spin the stock motor over 6500.

A cam that large on a stock motor would kill a lot of low end power making it have bad driveability, and piston to valve clearance would be a problem especially with a ported set of the heads. One of the only cams I think we offer that would work alright in both motors would be our 233/239R cam. Ideally you would want a little bit larger of a cam in the 383 but that would still make good power.

Or a even better option would be buy the H/C now that you want for your 383 & dont worry about modding your current motor right now. Focus on building your 383 combo. Just make damn sure when you go to ordering what pistons your gonna run so you can get H/C that compliment. Or you could always put the money you were gonna spend now back & order a complete long block set-up from a sponsor when the time comes.

Like Jon stated, you get a good 383 cam & cram it in a 346 it's not gonna turn out so well for ya.

I totally agree with you and john, just trying to see if i could use something in both motors, but I figured it wouldn't work out. Dammit i need more power but don't want to wait lol.

John- If I were to wait and just buy it all at once, what would be your recommendation for a cam selection for the 383? Goal is 500/475, don't know if that is over-shooting or under-shooting for a realistic goal.
