OD or just D for daily drive.

I dont disagree... exactly, but i drove my lt1 powered caprice in d on short drives under 45 mph, yes it was a police car and yes if anyones familiar with em theres a sticker in most of them that says shift into overdrive during highway or highspeed pursuit. I do like that a trans shop chimed in, as i respect and value the opinion of the professionals.

if you have a high stall (over 3200), keep it in D until around 60mph. if you keep it in OD for speeds under 40, the comp/tranny will search for gears. at least in my case it's how it is, i have a vig3600. but if you have a stock stall then i don't see why OD is a bad choice.

This is interesting, I had my car tuned by LG back in '04 and it always seemed to me that my car hasn't ever been to it's potential. The guy didn't really take a good amount of time tweaking my tune. Maybe I should get it done again. He had told me to leave it in D until 60-65. Guess that was false advice!

I have a 3600 converter and it doesn't like to lock up under 48 mph, and running around the city unlocked will heat the trans up. I made a custom tune for this, I set the 3rd gear TCC apply to a low mph, a few mph higher than the 4th gear shift point so it won't lock the TCC during normal driving in OD. But if I'm stuck at say 35-40 mph I can pull it down to D and the TCC will lock up, it'll run at the same rpm (+/- 200) but this prevents the trans from running hotter than needed.
