Guys running bigger rockers than 1.6 step inside
I have a cc503 with ported heads and 1.6s and have been thinking about going to 1.65s or 1.7s. I have a few questions will the 1.65s work with the stock valve covers? I am pretty sure the 1.7s wont. Anything on the valve train i will have to change I have molly pushrods and springs good to 620 lift? Also can I run these in sa since my heads are set up that way? How much hp would I gain jumping up to one of these? Also if you are running bigger list what kind and a part# if you dont mind! Thanks, Kierstyn

I'm running Scorpion 7/16", 1.7s using 7.500 TrickFlow .080 wall one-piece hardened pushrods and CompCams guide plates on my 96 LT1 Vette.
I'm about to do a head and cam swap on my son's 96 LT1 Vette and am going that same route.
Although I tried, I couldn't get the stock covers to clear. I followed the grinding directions on Golen Engines website and couldn't get them to clear. I even ended up grinding a tiny hole in one of the valve covers before I gave up and bought a set of GM Approved ProForm 1/4" taller covers from Scorpion.
I don't believe 1.65s will offer any more clearance than the 1.7s did for me. Of course, my experience may be because of the Scorpion rockers, so those running Crane's or CompCams rockers may have a different results.
Also, I followed the advice of CompCams when one of their tech guys wrote, in essence, in a performance application, it's best to use a NSA valvetrain.
TrickFlow TFS 21407500 pushrods
SCP 1026 Scorpion 7/16" 1.7 RRs
CCA-4808-8 CompCams Guide Plates

There's someone with a LT1 powered Jaguar on the board running 1.7RR and Comp Cam behives. I think his motor is close to stock with a few bolt ons. If I remember right it would be about .510INT/.521EXH with a stock cam. Probably 15-20 hp at the flywheel with a stock cam.
No way stock valve covers would work. You would probably need the frankenstein (Fabbed) valve covers. Valve guides would be a must, along with beefy pushrods, and 7/16 rocker studs. Oh Yeah, don't forget the valve springs..

There are quite a few guys running 1.7s. I've seen posts on other Forums, like LTXTECH.COM, CAMAROZ28.COM, etc. from guys running them. Probably Thirdgen.org and forums.corvetteforum.com too.

I plan to run the 1.7 scorpion rockers with the stock cam here in the next few months, hopefully i will net a little more than 10 horsepower with 10lbs of boost. I did hear about some kinda geometry issues with the way the 1.7 rockers but im sure can be compensated with the correct legnth pushrod.
