Default 98 Trans Am with Offset T-Tops

My daily driver has offset t-tops. I could be paranoid, but the offset is slowly getting worse. I believe this is the result of a tweaked body and or frame.

Is there a way to fix this? If so, how much would i have to spend to have it professionally done? Would it be better just to retire her to the scrap yard once i strip the engine, wiring, rims, and body panels for one of my shell project cars?

man, that sucks. Hopefully its fixable. It would be a shame to scrap the whole car. Sorry I dont have an answer, but does it leak?

They leak if the water pressure gets to high. For example wind and rain forces water into the cab. A carwash would drench my interior.

I have a '95 Trans Am (Hardtop) I could put everything into this summer but the 98 holds some sentimental value.

Its completely stock and I do not race it. The dammage happened when I hit a curb after a blowout, about five years ago.

Are your door gaps tighter on one side then the other? I would take it to a body shop that has a lazer measuring system for frame repair.

Agreed. It seems that you've really twisted something. Getting it measured at a frame shop is probably the best first step.

And you can't go wrong w/ a good set of 3-pt SFC's. If the car isn't too far twisted those might be enough to straighten it out.

Just got her back from the body shop. The guy says she is straight and that the T-Top seals are fitting correctly. The doors, hood, and hatch all have too good of a fitment for anything to be tweaked; also, there are no signs of stress on the fram anywhere.

Has anyone seen such an offset before?

It's a bit hard to tell from the pics, but is your car a factory T-Top? I looks like it is to me, but I'm not 100% sure. If it is, and your certain that the rest of the car is straight, you may want to look into adjusting the T-Top pin guides inside the A and B Pillar covers. Maybe those got shifted. That would definitely account for the offset.

Factory T-Tops. All Y82 Firebirds (Trans Am Trim Level) from '98 to '02 had t-tops as it was included with the Trans Am package.

Do i need to pull the plastic pin guides out to adjust them, or do i adjust them as they sit?

You have to pull the A-Pillar covers only for the fronts. For the rears you have to pull the B-Pillar covers and you may have to pull the headliner (which includes the dome light and I think some seatbelt stuff too). But I've adjusted them with the headliner in using a regular wrench. You may just have to pull the headliner out of the way a bit, just don't break it.

Then there's just 2 bolts per guide that need loosened and you can adjust from there.
