Default Fixing to do my first cam and heads swap.

As the title says Im going to try install my heads and cam this weekend and just wanted to see if there is anything I should keep in mind and stuff.

I have already read through the write up on LS1howto.com and should have a buddy helping who has done his before. I just want to be 100% positive that Im doing this right.

So any advice will be great.

Get a longer crank bolt to put the balancer back on. Balancer removal tool.

Oil pump pickup tube O-ring.

New coolant.

Dont forget the engine grounds on the back of the heads.

The passenger side SUCKS.

Good luck and have fun !

Take your time and make sure you clean out your head bolt holes the right way. Thread them a couple times to make sure they are clean and clear of debris. The cleaner your block surface the better. Dont skimp there. Other than that just follow the write up and you should be good. Are you doing lifters?

Oh and dont forget to swap over your freeze plug. lol did that once. did that once and everything was fine until the water pump activated. That was a scare that i dont want to go through again.

As mentioned chase the threads !!! Make sure you get the head bolt holes cleaned thoroughly. Don't go lazy on it and think it's good enough. Double check to make sure you get all the coolant and gunk out. More than one person has cracked their block by not cleaning them good enough. You can make a thread chaser using an old head bolt, they work well. This is where I would spend the most time and energy. Block surface prep as well but that is easy to do and easy to see.
