LQ-4 water pump question Can the pulley from a truck water pump be pulled off? (pressed on type) I need to replace the truck pump with a car pump so the top inlet is pointed toward the front of the radiator ( not up like on the trk). I need the larger truck pump pulley to line up with the larger crank pulley. Thanks

Yep, that's exaclty what I did. A 3 jaw puller will get the truck pulley off. Before removing, make a note of distance from the block mating surface and the pulley.
The biggest problem is removing the F body water pump pulley. There's barely any room to get between the pulley and water pump housing. I had to notch the pulley in 3 places to get 3 jaw puller on it. I couldn't figure a good way to get it in a press either. I suspect there a jig to press it off for rebuilding.
To press it on, remove the rear water pump cover. Support the bottom of the pump shaft using a small socket. Do not support it on the impeller surface, you'll just push the shaft down on the impeller. Press on the new pulley to the distance you noted earlier.
Here's a pic of my setup. The spacing is for truck accessories.

Thats great news!!! That will save me from having to change the crank pulley and the rest of my set-up. Thanks so much for sharing that. BIG HELP!!! The picture is great!!

i pulled my water neck off turned it where i wanted,and put red loctite on it and took a peice of wood and a mallet put it back in place....worked fine ps i already got one done like that if needed...

using that 3 jaw puller on the water pump is a pain. I wasn't successful doing it that way.
i installed the ls1 water pump on my 6.0 and welded a 3/4 nut to the front on the water pump pulley, then installed the bolt and used the bolt to pull the pulley out enough to line up with the accessories. After i got it where i wanted it, i cut off the bolt. Oh yeah i ran a weld around the inside of the pulley on to the shaft. it looks factory.
