Default What is the biggest cam with a near stock rumble?

Looking for a sleeper, might even go with an STS turbo if I can find one used around $2500.00. I would like a near stock idle. What is the largest cam that will get me what I want?

cc305 or the cadillac cam will work with near stock idle. Idk the caddy cams lsa, but most say it idles near stock.

A good sleeper cam would be either a 212/222 .544/.544 114 LSA or 218/224 .544/.544 111 LSA. The second grind is comparable to the Crane 227 which is a well known sleeper cam with a touch louder lope. Nothing major...you probably wouldn't notice it much. Of the two, I would go with the Crane 227. Emission/Smog friendly as well.

Mine sounds almost stock (222/226), even without the cat on. But I do have the idle set at 900rpm to help get that sleeper effect. Just changing the idle from 750 to the 900 made a big difference.

That LE sleeper cam is the 212/222 .544/.544 114 LSA I mentioned.

Since Crane is out of biz where can I find a 227. The cc305 (on youtube) has a rough idle. Can I get the 305 with a larger LSA? How much power will these smaller cams make on a new stock long block with tune and LT headers?

The ones you were probably hearing were with the 112LSA. Comp makes the CC305 with both the 112 and 114.

crane 227 i like the sound of it, or the zz4 cam both sound good, but not a choppy idle that is noticeable

ive seen some nice numbers outta the crane 227 and the zz4 cam in lts with headers only
seen 323rwhp outta the 227
and 358 outta the zz4

both engines had ported heads full exhaust and larger injectors and underdrives, but not much more than what you have

Just get a Lloyd custom grind of the Crane 227 which would be...

218/224 .544/.544 111 LSA

I would put aside the sleeper idea and go at least to a 223/230 .565/.565 112-110 LSA It would still be a streetable cam for daily driving and give you some more ***** up top where the LTx needs it. Sound wise it's still going to be relatively mild sounding.

I made 323hp/338tq with the stock cam and 1.7 RR and very mild ported heads with at most LE1 level porting, stock intake (unported) and TB, maxing out the injectors at 4400 RPM on E85. So I think more can be had with a sleeper cam.

For a sleeper, I would look for a 114 or higher LSA, mild duration, but higher lift to make up some for the milder duration.

358hp would make me very happy, that is around 412 crank HP (137hp over stock). Add a 150 shot or a STS turbo and bam new rear end, will be fun doing though! Any other sugestions for a mild cam that will put me in this zone.

Sorry Elliott, I realy just want it to sound stock, for now.

Would this be a lumpy cam... 218/224 .544/.544 111 LSA (with the 111 LSA)?

No worries everyone has different builds in mind. The 218/224 .544/.544 on a 111 LSA would not be a lumpy cam. Here is a sound clip, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gKyDSsWP--I
