Default i cant get my crank pulley off!!

so i rented the big pulley puller from autozone to do my camswap. it was to big, i went back and got the smaller one and it was all stripped out and garbage. so i went back for a third time and got a new smaller one and tried to use it and the pulley wouldn't budge i ended up bending the center screw that you tighten to pop it off. what the hell am i doing wrong? i got a longer crank bolt, hooked the arms on the pulley and tightened the screw up to the crank bolt and tried to crank her down to pop it off and like i said i bent the **** out of it. i sprayed it with penetrating oil tonight but idk what to use since those arent working. any advice would be much appreciated, this is taking so much longer than it should

well i dont have a puller that works now and i cant afford to keep buying them and breaking them lol. the process i explained is the right way to do it correct? how far does the pulley move before it pops off? like a 1/4 or 1/2 of an inch?

what i did was take the old bolt and grind off what looks like a washer on the head of the bolt.. i put that back in and got the pulley bolt on there and grabbed the pulley from the inside.. i believe it has 3 flanges on the inside part of the pulley, to get the pulley puller on.. once i was bottomed out on the puller i would back the crank bolt out and go at it again.. prob. a couple times before it comes off....it needs to come off the crank snout an inch or more

And don't push on the bolt or threads. Put a socket or large allen head against the crank snout. If you bugger the threads you will have more problems later.

Be sure you're pulling from the inside of the pulley. That was my problem. I also used a torch to heat the snout up too.

thanks guys i went to autozone and got the chrysler puller and it was 100 times nicer, pulley came right off and i got my cam pulled used wooden dowels to hold the lifters, that went like a dream, lining up the cam gear and the crank gear went in one attempt then we had a bitch of a time droppin the pan to screw the oil pickup to the new pump. but we managed and are going to tackle valvesprings tomorrow. not bad for like 3 hours for a first timer
