If they're running down the hall with sharp scissors, stealing the change you leave on the dresser, lying about not having homework on a school night...they're definitely bad.

When mine took a crap it sounded like a ticking metal on metal noise. It started out sounding like an exhaust leak or a loose plug, then got extremely loud over a few days.

No loss in power, just the noise got worse. It sounded like it was coming from the valve covers, so I pulled them and checked the rockers, but it was still there and sounded like it was coming from the heads when the covers were off.

Exhaust sounded the same.

My lifters are apparently bad at the moment.I believe two valves on one cylinder arent even opening. It does kind of sound like a loose plug or wire but its a more metallic sound.

Also check the crankcase for pieces of metal.. Or just pull the oil dipstick and look for little pieces of metal on that.

when i did my motor i had 3 bad lifters..one intake valve never opened for the first 1k miles. It still did 150 mph and it didn't sound bad just a little ticking like said above metal hitting. I auto tapped it and had tons of misfires. i ended up pulling both heads and replacing them all. If you can use one of those mechanics stethoscopes to determine where the sound is exactly coming from.

Damn sounds like my lifters might be going bad.... When I changed my oil there was quite a bit of shavings and sometime from the exhaust I can hear a little ticking noise. Would it harm my engine if I keep running it like that....?
