Default Would the TP4000 be a waste for street only?

I was wondering if the Pro Thruster 4000 would be a waste for mainly a street car with my mods below. I am looking for a fairly cheap mod (less than 1k) that will wake my car up down low and from a roll. I am not really interested in nitrous. I may do heads/cam or a supercharger a few years down the road. I don't mind if its loose because its a weekend driver. Thanks!

i was stuck with the same decision. I went with a 4400 from FTI and it is tight as hell down low so its awesome for street driving, have to rev to 2200 or so and your rolling. Hell, it will move by itself when you let off the brake. Now when you mash the happy pedal, she comes alive and just rolls out like mad. I love it and am super happy I didnt go smaller.

I'm guessing it has higher STR? Like 2.5? Are you coming from a stock converter? I noticed yank has free shipping on this and the PT3800. I am very interested. Do you have anything else done to the tranny besides a shift kit and cooler?

I came from a T56. Swapped over to a TH350, so its a fully built trans, rmvb, trans brake, etc. I cant tell you what the STR is on the converter, as FTI builds each one to the customers specs. I just know it hits like a ton of bricks.

i had a tci 3400 that was real loose .. when i mean loose , it would flash to 4500....
just tight enough to get around town..

i now have a ss3600 and its tight. it flashes 3600. if you have a dd or you drive your "street car" vert often i would get the tighter stall....

if you want somehting that will yank your neck off then get somehting thats a little looser

Will do. Thanks. Can't seem to decide between the PT3800 or the PT4000...

x2. I need to have my SS3600 restalled with this G5x2 cam as it wants to push through the brakes a little (not bad - 875-900 idle), and was going to go with either a SS4000 or a PT4000...

I understand the reduction but why not stay with the PT and just go with less stall?

What is the lifespan of the 4L60E with a big cooler, shift kit and a 4000 converter on a weekend driver? I have 62K miles now. I just don't want to have to rebuild the tranny any time soon.

PT4000 is nice if you have the gear to match. I tried a PT4000 with a 2.73 and it wasn't fun but with the 3.42's, it's MUCH better.

That's my car....swapped a new exhaust in and went back to the track with less fuel and got much better times (see sig). I personally think the PT series are great on the street, but they are definitely looser than most converters. I ran the SS4000 before and it was great, but didn't have the topend of the PT....the PT absolutely rocks from a roll. Anything below 40 is major wheelspin with street tires, but with traction it's just violent. Shift extension on my car is 5700-5800 with 6500 shift points. Keep in mind that I do run 3.23's still, so obviously more gear will make it that much better. This is my 3rd converter and my favorite by far. It takes me about 2500 to accelerate with traffic, so all in all it's very streetable. Go for it and don't look back....you'll love it!
