Heres more info on the swap and its a good idea if you drive the car regulary the overdrive will likley pay for the swap in a year in gas savings alone. Particularly if gas prices go way back up like i think they will later in the year.

It seems the swap is not so bad at all. It is strictly the price that causes most people to go away from the 80E I think. You can buy a nice strong built TH400 for literally half the price of a good 80E. On top of the 80E price you need lots of components for the swap, with the TH400 it doesn't seem so bad. I am actually right in the middle of a TH400 swap but I have always been an auto so I can't help you out with the coming from an M6. If you still want to drive the car on teh street a lot then you will probably want to go 80E. IF its a weekend fun car and a track car then you will probably be fine with the TH400.

Really the only part that is any more expensive (than building a good 4l60) is the converter. Pretty much everything you have to buy for an 80e swap you would still have to buy for a Th400 swap. After selling off my M6 stuff, It was only about $1800 or so out of pocket. Thats cheaper than buying an "800hp" 4L60E (which won't have nearly the same durability).
I'm not even close to N/A, so this maybe be irrelevant, and my car wont be daily driven... so the gas mileage wont bother me. I'm only going to pull the car out on the weekends to race (against Liter bikes if the build goes good )
To the OP, I would say, If the car isn't your daily, save the money and go th400
