Exclamation Broken Car ... Help!

Okay, I'm driving home today doing about 55mph in 6th gear, and out of nowhere my car starts shuttering and i hear a horrid noise coming from the transmission/driveshaft/rear end. (not really sure exactly where, but i could definately feel it through the shifter). When pulling down a side road (didn't want to stay on the side of a main highway) I noticed that it would drive okay at a steady speed (say 10mph in first gear), but if I let off the gas the noise would come back again.
I got it towed and was able to limp it into one of the bays at my dads autobody shop. They will look at it tomorrow to find out what it is, but I am wondering what I should be expecting? Blown rear end? Driveshaft? Something with the tranny?

mods to drivetrain:

4:10 motive gears, TA girdle (installed about 5 months ago)
spec stage 3 clutch, 02 slave, new master (installed about a year and a half ago)
drill mod (done about 3 weeks ago)

BTW, the noise sounded like a baseball card stuck in the spokes of a bike tire ... but with metal.

Just so everyone knows ... it was a driveshaft U-joint that went ... got it fixed, balanced, and everythings fine.

Yeah, at first I thought it was my gears also, but the car still drove, just clunked and made lots of noises.

You dont have an adjustable torque arm on there do ya?

I've seen a few with a shallow pinion ajustment that created an appetite for U-joints.
