This is some of what I found when checking to see what needs to be worked on.

Something is amiss. The filter is on tight, so maybe pan gasket?


I am going to assume these should be bolted together? Pictures of both the left and right side.

This is certainly no good.


It's amazing how these lights retain water.


I want to replace this since the tabs are broken. What is this housing called?
Also, the module that this housing encases, it freely moves, is that normal?


The wedge that holds the battery is missing. Is there a better retention system that is being used, or is the wedge it?

Put that thing on a lift and get 5 cans of brake cleaner and clan that thing till it shines. Then tighten all your oil pan bolts and any other bolt you can get to.

Go to the dealership and get the right bolts for the sway bar, both sides, replace all 4 bolts. Don't drive that car to the dealer though to get them.

There's nothing wrong with that metal fitting, as long as its holding and not leaking. I'd just use a better type of fitting. Just tighten it and it'll probably last for years. Is that an A/C line?

The battery wedge, just get the bolt from the dealer.

Its hard to tell from the pic, but the hose fitting looks like it is for a TB bypass. If so then it is fine the way it is.

You don't need to use GM bolts for the sway bar, just pick some up at your local hardware store and it'll definetly save you some money.

There is nothing in those pics that would make me think that car isn't safe to drive.

oil problem may lie in the gasket on the oil filter. i once changed my oil and i didnt realize the gasket was missing on the filter. 3 quarts of oil on my driveway after that incident.

sway bar should be bolted to those mounts.

what are those hoses connected to? the ones that have the barbed connector fittings?

the housing thing you want to replace is for your TCS module (traction control).

I appreciate the replies.

I just moved to Indiana from Los Angeles, moved into a new house, bought this car, and just trying to get acclimated with my new surroundings. I have a million things running through my mind so I overlook the obvious here and there.

Here is a better shot of the area. It looks like a coolant line that just needs to be cleaned up and tightened.


As far as the bolts for the sway bar, what size and length am I looking for? I was going grab some replacements from Ace. I've seen the bolts being sold online, but the dimensions aren't specified.

I would replace the bushings for the sway bar as well with some poly ones as the stockers look worn. I can't remember if my replacements came with grade 8 botls but I think they did.

I'm sure the old ones got grit in them and will squeak when put back on. You never want to grease a rubber bushing.

That hose looks like its for the transmission cooler, the car must be an auto, yes?

Just remove the swaybar if you dont want it there. Mine is off my car and it seems to drive just fine without it, but i'm not out doing any autoX either.

As for the oil deal it could very well be a rear main seal. Or could just be the old gasket left from the old filter that was taken off so the new filter isn't sealing against the block.

It is, yes.

I am going to drop the pan and filter this weekend and take a look. Hopefully, it is something simple. My skill is with computers, my mechanical know how is mediocre to fair at best.

It appears that someone added a remote transmission cooler. The steel line appears to be cut and a rubber hose put over it. It then looks like it goes into the lower radiator support, probably to the remote cooler, then back out. I would make sure the hoses are not cut, tighten the clamps, and clean it up.

I'd do like suggested and clean everthing up first, then change the oil and filter and see if/where it leaks before I pulled the oil pan. I bet the filter has been placed over the old gasket like suggested, I've seen that several times.

Try to simply tighten the oil pan bolts. Not too tight as they go into an alluminum block.

If it's a rear main leak, you don't have to drop the oil pan to change the rear main seal, but you do need to pull the trans.
