Default Ooooohhhh f..k!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ok here is the story just installed a 589 598 lift cam with 7.4 pushrods and PAC 918 springs and we started the car and it had a loud tick like a cold powerstroke, oil pressure was normal, so we shut it off and called a mechanic and he told us that the lifters needed to be pumped up and he told us to let it idle so we did and the sound got quieter than he said go drive it so we did, "the car was running good other then the noises " and we got about 8 blocks and its almost like it locked up and the motor died we parked the car and checked the oil and **** and everything looked ok so we cranked it over and it started but extremly loud tick/rubbing/banging from the bottom end. hauled it home pulled valve covers, all springs and rods intaked, drained oil and no shavings on magnitezed drain plug. wut do i check next?
i wanna pull the oil pan but i dont think u can without pullin the motor.

P.S. I MOVE IN THREE DAYS!!! and have no garage where im moving, so allnighters are ok for me just to get it done

Hook the airhose back up with the rockers off and see if air is blowing threw the valves. Did you check the piston to valve clearance? Did you degree the cam, making sure it was installed correctly?

we did not take the heads off to do this cam we were told by comp cams that we did not need to worry about valve clearance with this setup and the cam can only be installed in one poistion so that it is lined up with the arrow on the bottom timing gear

Are there any valve springs sitting "lower" than the others? Such as all the intake valve springs? Sounds like the timing chain could be installed wrong and the cam is waay advanced/retarded and the valves hit the pistons. Doing what ***** said will let you know that without pulling the heads.

Good luck man.

So no you didn't degree the cam. And you don't have to have the heads off to check the p/v clearance.

What timing set did you use or did you just reuse the stock chain and gears? Did you torque the cam bolts or use a little locktite when they were reinstalled.

You said you checked the oil but you didn't say if the oil pressure was normal.

Yes, that will rule out bent valves.

You asking for help? I didn't read were the car was running good. I red the part about it making noises and nearly locking up on the road and having to tow it home.

Did you fill the radiator with coolant, and bleed all the air from the system?
