Default prc stage 2.5 ls6 heads w/ stock cam

Will this give me some decent numbers with the stock cam. don't feel like tearing into the engine quite yet. it's going into a 98 z28 a4.

Truthfully-No. Those heads would be overkill for a stock cam. But if you are planning future upgrades then do it as a building block. But thats my .02. I have these heads but with a MS3 and 1 7/8 headers duals 92/92 etc.

will i see a drop in horsepower? I was thinking of setting this up with a 224/224xe or a 220/220 camshaft later on the line from tsp.

Not realy a drop in power-but with a LS1 intake and a small cam 1 3/4 headers the stg1 LS6s would be better. With stock size valves. I feel with mine and a 2.04 intake valve as too much shrouding and a 2.02 would have been better. Even if you going to run a LS6 intake and a mild cam since this car is possibly more of A street car. A lesser head will benifit you better.

Are you kidding me? these heads are not over kill for that cam....

Check out the search, there are plenty of guys running stock cams with new heads and intake making very good power!

Theres a guy that had a set of AI heads (ported 241) with stock cam, fast 90/90 made 427 hp....

i have a buddy of mine has stock 1999 cam, fast 90/90, tsp 5.3 stg 2.5, full bolt ons making 390 hp/ 390 tq.... pretty impressive if you ask me..

^ that 390/390 was thro slp 78 mm lid, stock 78 maf, stock bellows, catted y, magnaflow catback...

if you dont have money for fast 90/90 just settle for LS6.

Trust me a intake/heads stock cam car is really nice... but if you want lope now would be the time to swap in that cam.. 90% of the work is already done and ready for cam.

is there a huge flow difference between the ls6 and 5.3 heads. My reasons for not installing a cam right away is because i dont want to change the springs when i can just get a set of heads and i dont want to install them both at the same time b/c if i run into problems it becomes hard to troubleshoot.

You could throw the 2.5 LS6 heads on without any problem. They should pick up a solid 40-45 RWHP over the factory heads. The big thing guys seem to favor with the 5.3L is the extra compression. With the cam size you are thinking about running, we can easily mill the heads to match the compression or you can look at running a thinner gasket as well to pick the compression up on the LS6's. The LS6 heads will move more air than the 5.3L heads as well!

Don't forget, we are running a HUGE sale on the 2.5 LS6 heads this week only! Over $250 off of retail this week only! Check the sponsor sale section for details!
