im gonna have someone post pics of it its chipped about an inch long 1/4 inch into the block on the drivers side under the head

ouch! it doesnt appear to be in a critical area but i would check with your local machinist and see what they say. good luck man!

How that happened would concern me. The area of the missing piece is not critical but a piece off the block just doesn't come off like that.
