Default what would you do in my postion?

Thinking about buying a 2000 Z28 fully loaded 75000 miles for 4000 grand. The car has either a cracked piston or bad rings because it smokes really bad.

See the thing is im going in to the Air Force and whne i get stationed. I planed on buying a 01 or 02 camaro.

So i figure if i just buy this car that i could go ahead and take out a loan and fix this car and then i will have a built bottom end. and possible heads and cam.

only thing is the car is an auto an i would want ot convert it to a 6 speed.

so what do you guys think BUY an 01 or 02(for 17500 to 24000) and be stuck with stock or buy the car and have a built bottom end(for 10000)?

is the only thing wrong with the car just the engine? if everything else is in perfect working order i'd get it. put in a strocker with forged bottom end and get a H/C/I package and call it a day .

though i prefer the 6sp if you plan on alot of 1/4 runs i'd stick with the a4 and just get a nice stall.

Converting an A4 to an M6 is more time, money and headache than it's worth. My vote goes to getting the right car like you want and then mod it later. By that time, some of the mods may get cheaper, too! Skip the cheap car unless you have no plans on doing anything with it but make it a race car.

75K 00 Z28 should fetch at least 10 grand dude. I can't see how you couldn't fix the problem and not profit?

It's not a good deal if you plan to convert it to a T56 trans.

I think you should pass, maybe forward the info to someone who could flip it, and maybe they will give you a spiff for the referral.

Wait and buy the 01-02. Learned a long time ago, buy exactly what you want. Anything else ends up being not quite being a pain in the butt, or loses it's attractiveness quickly. Unless you know EXACTLY what it would take to fix 'n flip the other car, you gambling some of your obviously thin free cash.

Don't know where you'll end up serving, but thanks for doing it, and be careful. Good luck.
