Need an output shaft, a reluctor wheel (for speedo) and a new tailshaft housing. Tranny must pretty much come competely apart for this.

Do a google for 4L80 tail housing. There's even a couple out there that have mechanical speedo capability.

along with all the stuff mentioned, theres a plug in the back of where the tail housing would bolt up to, that needs to be drilled or replaced with one with a hole

The speed reference on an 80 picks up off of the rear speed sensor. The reluctor is made into the output carrier.

It is quite possible to get a 4L80 put together without the reluctor. Ask me how I know.

I would not suggest drilling the freeze plug in that back of the case. There is an actual seal that is apart of this plug with an orifice in it for the 2wd models. Also on the 4x4 models the rear planet carrier can have a pressed on reluctor or it might not. If you have a model without one, sonnax sells the relutor that can easily be pressed on. Vince
