Default My First LS-1 car and needing some help

I'm a seasoned drag racer from the 60's to the present and now I own my first 2001 Formula LS-1. The motor has the, heads (243) and cam with LS-6 intake from ZO6 Corvette. 1 3/4" full length headers, a stock A4 trans with shift kit and stock converter. I have catback exhaust with SLP pipes. Have 373's in the rear with skinnies in the front and M/T drag radials 275x60x15 in back. What rpm would be good for launching the car and should I manually shift the car or just leave it in drive ? Any help would be GREATLY appreciated as this is all new to me. Thanks.

First off Congratz on the new car!

I would think the 1st thing to do is get the car dynoed and make sure everything is working right, the Air/Fuel ratio is with in spec so that when you go racing, you can see where the car is and what your doing.

Do you know the stall rpm of the converter?

Do not manually shift the trans, its electronic, let it shift it's self.

All I would suggest is putting a line lock kit (SLP) on it so the burnout can be even and full.

Bring the car up, let the 2nd light just lit up.

Apply a little throttle to load the converter and on the 3rd, mash it. If the suspension and tire set up is correct, it should leave good. If not you will see it in the 60 foot.

Just launch off idle is the best for the stock converter. Should net you 1.9 60's everytime. Just leave the car in 3rd.

I'm not sure what the stall is on a stock converter. I will put a line lock system on the car before I race it and I was told by the seller that the car had just been tuned. Thanks for all the feedback everyone and I will try all your recommendations.

You said that it has a cam, if it is any decently sized cam over stock you are definitely going to want to put a larger size converter in there before you go and get disappointed at the track.

Thanks for the info. It'll probably be 1 week or so before I can put a # on the car. Does anyone have an idea around what this combination "should" run (ballpark figures)? What size converter should I be looking for? I don't know the specs on the cam. I was told heads and cam came out of a ZO6 vette. Thanks

Thanks again for all your help. Hopefully I'll be taking it down the track next week.
