Just unbolt the pulley and replace the tensioner bearing, it's cheap and easy.

OK stupid question here, is it a squeaking sound or more of a rattling sound? My LS1 has always had this sorta rattle click sound that tends to go away once it's warm. Hasn't effected performance and heard other LS1s with the same noise, always wondered what it was.

Easy test is to remove the belt and run the engine, if the noise disappears, there's an issue with your accessories, if not, look elsewhere...

make sure the belt is not too loose or too tight... look at the tensioner itself while the engine is stopped... is the marking too far to one side or another?
- if that is the case, you either have too long or too short of a belt...
if its in the middle, start the car and watch the tensioner to see if it is banging against one side or the other... if this is the case, the spring in the tensioner is weak and needs to be replaced..

Ive heard of that problem with one of the solenoids or something to do with the emisions, maybe only 99-00 but cant remember, but it only does it when its warming up, kind of like the air system.
