So I was breaking in my new clutch in my Z06 and I had about 375 miles on it. My friend said "Hey there is a 911 turbo behind us". :D I was pretty torn between being nice to my clutch and finish properly breaking it in, or racing this guy. So we stopped at a light and sure enough it was a middle age guy and his slightly drunk wife in the 07 911 Turbo. We asked if he wanted to get on the interstate and play and he said "Hell yea!!!" He also said that my car sounded very mean. So we got to doing about 60 and I put it in 3rd gear instead of second to be nice to the clutch. He hit it and I responded, by 110 I had 2 car lengths on him I just shifted it in 4th and shut it down. He slowed and gave me a thumbs up and then solohit off into the night.
I knew this was going to happen while breaking in my clutch :eyes:. I finished properly breaking in it and it feels great.

All in all it was nice to see a older guy that was not a prick in a really expensive car.

Yea it was starting to get ugly... from 60 to like 80 he was hanging in there and then I actually got to the mph that the gear is supposed run in. He said he wanted to race a new ZR1 that he saw and the guy wouldn't run him. What are those things supposed to run anywho?

cmaxw640

Shit if you would have hit him in second you would have ruined him then... haha. What are they suppose to run or why is someone buying it if they aren't going to race it???

Roger Z06
06-05-2009, 11:22 AM
Oh I really wanted to try it again in second after I saw the clutch was going to take it like a champ, but he went all rally race on me and was doing like 120 :eyes: through traffic after he gave me thumbs up.

yeah forgett that... I'm all for doing a hwy race if there is limited traffic around, but that's just crazy...

Yea we had enough room to do a 60-110 by slowing down, but all that cutting people off shit is where street racing gets its bad name from. That is also how people die. :gtfo:

Agreed.. but if it's open freeway me and another guy... I'm fine with burring my speedo:D

Roger Z06

Oh yea for sure, I topped my car out in a NASA buffer zone one time. 170 is all I wanted to go... when you are doing 170 for too long cars a few miles ahead of you start coming up quick.

06-05-2009, 11:45 AM
I've only got my car up to 145, but it still had more power just not enough road :eyes:

A 911 Turbo? A mid-low 11 at 120-124 depending on driver and transmission.

That is pretty stout except for the comparison to the price tag :eyes: I wish we would have gone to maybe 130 because the pain train was on the way, but a few minivans had other plans for our race. :bang:

If you have ever ridden in a Porsche, much less a 997 Turbo, you would understand the price tag almost immediately.

Once you get over the pedals being hinged at the bottom. It takes a little getting used to. But yea Porsches are great cars and a blast to drive. Amazing what they can do with those baby motors.

So I took my car to the track with the ccw drag pack on it... the guy before me said he ran his best time dropping the clutch at 4200 rpm:eyes:... so I slipped it at 3k. I made it 10ft out of the hole when the diff split in half. :bang: I completely destroyed at DTE stage 4 diff.

ouch... been there, done that.. not a pretty site :bang:

You must a pretty stout ride to bust a new 911 like that. When my car was stock, I would only eat them up by 3 cars or so :D

Too rich for my blood but worth every penny if you can swing it. My buddy is a Securities & Exchange lawyer and his 997 GT3 is sex on wheels. I couldn't even afford those ceramic brakes - much less the car. :(

Great kill, OP. What's done to your Z? On a side note, I've run two of those Turbo Porsches and they're a REALLY good run on the highway for my car. I expected them to pull a bit up top but they didn't. Pretty much a drivers race. Time to step up my game a bit.

Yea they are not as fast as their price tag suggest... my car has some stuff done to it... if I would have been at the right mph or 2nd gear it would have been like 5 car lengths.

If you pulled on him like that from the wrong gear I'm assuming you've got some decent engine work done to go along with any bolt-ons because there's no way a bolt-on Z06 is pulling on a Turbo Porsche from the wrong gear unless the Porsche driver doesn't know what the hell he's doing. I run pretty even with a stockish 02-04 Z06 on the highway and if anything the Turbo is pulling on me up top; best case I hang with them.

Pick on the stock 997 style porsches, because you are looking for a asswhooping if you get ahold of one that has upgraded turbos..

My brother in law has a TechArt Porsche. Over 700 HP and it drives like a pussycat until you mash the loud pedal. Then all hell breaks loose. He also has a Ruf that has over 600 HP. Sick ass Porsches and he drives them the way they are meant to be driven, on the autobahn flat out. I have been in the car at over 220 MPH. Both are capable of that speed the TechArt is a little faster top end. It tops out at 236 according to the literature he has, I'd believe it.

I was just responding to the statement that Porsches could be fast. I'm sure there are plenty of Vette's that would destroy those two cars. Hell Roger's car could be one of them. I don't know and really don't care.

That argument could be said about anything.. i could make a thread saying how a stock rx-8 completely destroyed a honda civic, but then everyone can jump in and say, well there are these guys that i know whose brothers honda is in a car club where there is a really fast one :eyes: and im just saying because i know that honda's can be fast :gruffy:

Xtreme57

I think a correction needs to be made. "Turbo Porsches can be fast" is incorrect. "Turbo Porsches ARE fast" is more appropriate. I don't think there's anyone in the world who could argue that a stock 11 sec car is not fast. Again, good kill.

You could make that thread. The difference is I have actually been in and driven those two cars I was referring to.

According to official Porsche figures, it produces 480 hp (358 kW; 487 PS)
They lose 120hp through the drivetrain?

You revived this thread to say that? BTW the overboost function provides for 10 seconds of 3 more pounds of boost resulting in 505 Ft lbs of torque at just over 2000 RPM at full throttle. It was part of a $1840 option called the Sport Chrono option. The horsepower figure you posted are laughable at best. The weight you posted is off as well they are 3,494 pounds with the manual transmission, 3,572 with the Tiptronic automatic. Before you post here you might want to actually know what you are talking about. :chug:

Buddy...stop the google copy and paste and quit with the attitude before i slap you in public.

I said 3600 lbs...most turbo's are not driven around dry weight without a driver. They're heavy...it's a luxury missile. If you want light weight go with an early air cooled car or a 996/997 Gt3/2. The Tip IS 3600 lbs.

3rd...ease up a little, you're taking this whole "I TOLD YOU SO THING" a little to seriously.

4th. YES...sorry to tell you, it is 381 rwhp...EXCUSE ME...AWHP.
When was the last time you saw a car company (EVEN PORSCHE) advertise in RWHP? I'll photo copy a dyno sheet if i can't find one on google. There was a pretty big upset in the porsche world when the real world #'s didn't match the claimed #'s. Porsche AG says it was because USA's pump gas sucks and Porsche's #'s were on euro 98 or whatever. Search in pelicanparts.com's forums if you're really interested because i'm not anymore.
