Default Hi LS1'ers, SS Owner from Cali....

Hey everyone!
Here's the pics of my ride I just got two weeks ago, kind of an overcast day but still shows ok....
Anybody from Cali throw me a post, I'm interested in possibly starting a Camaro/SS Club here in So. Cal -
Take care!

Congrats on your new toy, it looks great. How does the interior look, is it an a4 or m6? Besides the catback what else has been done to the car?

Thanks for the props...Yeah I really like the Sunset Orange, the firebirds looks amazing with this color too. Oh course typical wife answer was, "Really?? Why orange? I like black better"...well can't please them all! lol

It's an A4 (which is cool with me since I'm usually in the stop N go with traffic) and its got black leather interior, interior's in great shape except the drivers seat has a little tearing on the bottom part

Besides the Magnaflow catback, all I can really tell it has mod'd is a "Volant" cold air system (First I've really seen but it seems ok) and it did have shortie headers... bummer though, I had to replace back to stock to pass smog.

It does have a whiny rear end which I think means the stock 10 bolt is close to giving up the ghost.

Question: I'm strapped for cash right now so I'm trying to weigh my options. I've heard rebuilding the stock is a waste of money, what would you say is the best, low dollar "bang for my buck" with a rear end?? should I switch to a 3.73 for better performance... I think stock is 3.42??? Sorry for the kinda newbie question but I'm just getting familar with the 4th gen's....

If you are doing a daily driver and not much racing the rebuilding shouldnt be a problem till you start adding some real power to it. That is what I have gathered from reading all of these forums. I still have my stock and I hammer it hard once in a while with no problems - M6 here too. If you want to make it bullet proof then get an aftermarket rear. I know some people on here are pushing hard with the stock rear and it has lasted. When I do all of my updates the rear end will probably be first on the list. Hope this helps.

Ok cool - yeah its kind of annoying were its at right now. Any time I punch it (even mildly get on it) there's a thump,thump,thump...almost feels like a trans mount or something but I checked the mount and its good. I would like to get some more horses eventually (I guess about 320-330 to the wheels right now) but I want to try and get close to 400. Problem is the smog thing here in CA is too much drama, so i have to find a way without headers

So if you were going to rebuild the stock rear end would you put in 3.42, 3.73, etc if you wanted more performance??? I'm sure fuel eff. goes down but would it be beneficial to get more power to the wheels???

Thanks!

hello Daniel, welcome! very clean car man!! hit up one of our meets... we are in so cal as well... http://caligeneralzcc.com/forum/... as for the mods go in cali... there are ways to go around the smog ****'s and to reach 400 to the wheels is pretty easily done with a good size cam, intake , headers, or if you want to ditch the ls1 jump into a ls2 way easier to get the 400... or even a 100 wet shot will get you to the 400 don't have to do much!! anways welcome and say hello on our forum

Thanks for the advice! I definitely go check out your forum and post up over there to find out more about your club and meets....
Yeah, I'm still a newbie when it comes to the LS1 cars but I've been around F-bodies my whole life and I definitely want to make this one special and enjoy it so I will be doing a lot of research on modding in any cost effective way....
See you around!

nice car daniel. always liked the orange ss's. my stock ring and pinion blew up so did my posi in my 10 bolt i rebuilt is with a better posi and 3.73's....i would have done 4.10's but i drive on the highway too much. put a heavy duty rear end cover on the back of the diff and you will be good for a while. a4's dont punish the rear end as much as a 6 speed does. powershifting hurts the 10 bolts haha. i have slp long tubes, an slp y pipe and an slp loudmouth 1 catback also a cold air intake i should be around 345-350 to the wheels and my 10 bolt its holding up just fine. i just dont launch it as 5 grand. treat it good man and it will last a good while. congrats on the car man and welcome!!!!
