How many threads are you going to open?
You'll need giggle juice for high torque. Most h/c packages I've seen make low 400's torque. Depends on how extreme you go with your h/c.

With a 346 you need high compression and a bigger cam. My setup is a 235/240 cam on a 112+4 giving the intake a 108 icl, I had the heads milled and used .040 cometic gaskets to get 11.5:1 compression. It made 468rwhp and 434.8rwtq on 91 octane pump gas through a 9" rear with 4.10 gears. If your shortblock is stock you need to check piston to valve clearence if milling the heads and everything.
I have seen very few h/c cars making this kind of torque, not sure how hard it would be to hit the 440rwtq mark.

High dollar 346 build for sure. My best output from my old 346 was 490 rwhp 445 rwtq.
That was with afr 205 heads 59cc, g6x3 cam, ported 90 fast and ported NW tb, every bolt on including ewp and ud pully, vara ram cai. Carbon Fiber driveshaft, Exedy twin plate clutch with chromoly fly wheel. (very light flywheel)
On a side note my 123.6 mph (in less then perfect air and kissing the rev limiter) suggests that I wasn't making quite the power the dyno said I was. On the other hand she would bury the speedo in 5th gear at around 6900+ rpms !!! So I will say the slow trap was driver error, top speed capability doesn't lie.
Just my 2 cents !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
