Default 71 chevelle 5.3 buildup suggestions

I was looking for a 6.0L, a friend found what he thought was a 6.0 ,but turned out it was a 2004 5.3. It was free and complete from intake to pan so I nabbed it without hesitation. It turns out the heads were cracked around one of the bolt holes (apparently common in 4.8/5.3's), but the rest looks in good condition and the truck the motor came out of only had around 60K. SO, should I hold out for the 6.0L and use the 5.3L to mock up and/or get more familiar with the gen-3. Or get a set a heads for the 5.3L and run with it. I'm not looking to make insane power and this will be a somewhat budget conversion. I was shooting for the mid 400hp/Tq. range with decent drivability. If I decide to go this route could I get these numbers with stock heads and a cam swap and bolt-ons(LS6 intake, long tubes etc) or should I hold out for the 6.0. Any input would be great.I'm trying to do this on a limited budget so a set of $2000 heads is out.

just use some 241 heads along with a ls6 cam and springs.
if gonna use fbody or c5 brackets, might as well go with upd as well
u can find 241 for real fair prices all over.
