Exclamation 480LE not shifting problem, n00b help please!

Hey Yall,
I've got a 2002 1500HD with a 480le or whatever, the transmission seems to be working pretty fair enough other than the fact that it will not shift on its own.

it only shifts if you slightly lift off throttle then it will upshift.

if you accellerate (NOT limited to full throttle) it it will just ride all the way to rev limiter for and indefinite period in 1st gear, and 2nd gear.

other than that it works pretty fair enough. I'm assumign this is a pcm related issue but am extravigantly ignorant with the automatic transmission stuff.

i do not have internet access and will be at work for the next two days. this is my work truck and it has 227k miles on it and is normally used for pulling very very small boats and skis around a camp, so it is being used for towing but nothing over 6k lbs.

thanks in advance, i'll be back in a day or two, if you have any questions to help me diagnose this i'll be happy to answer / try things when i read them.

again thank you very much and hope your having a great day!

sounds to me like the tranny is slipping.

inspect the oil color and try to see if it smells burnt.

i've already done that, it doesn't seem burnt, but its been changed before i got here and the truck doesnt see life above 30mph very much at all. stays at camp, and if it goes on a road trip its not driven very hard.

does this seem to be a transmission (itself) issue

or a transmission pcm issue?

Has this truck ever been tuned or is it a stock PCM? We had this issue with our 4L60E and went into HP Tuners and corrected the Transmission Properties where the gear and tire size are listed, found the numbers were incorrect, put the correct values in and it then shifted like a charm. It's great what you can learn on your own!

No, if it has never been touched it will not do any good to reflash it. It may be mechanical then in the trans. I hope you find it man!
