Default slip yoke rust...

i little while back i got an aluminum driveshaft to replace the stock steel. the driveshaft has been sitting and the slip yoke has gathered, what looks like, a healthy coat of surface rust. should i attempt removing the rust? or should i just get a new slip yoke? (if so, anyone recommend where?) i am getting new universal joints, so the yoke has to come off, anyway.

i would try a scotchbrite pad and once you can see clean metal underneath the rust see if its pitted. If the metal isn't pitted then it should be fine. The seal only runs in a small portion of the slick part so even some pitting still may be ok. If it is pitted i would buy a new one simply bc i have fought tailshaft leaks before replacing seals till i was blue in the face and i wouldn't chance it simply bc of the potential aggravation.
