Default ****, clutch help please?

SO what exactly are the first signs of a clutch going out?today i noticed that on the interstate, cruising in 5th or 6th, if i ease into the gas without downshifting it feels like the clutch is slipping, as the revs get higher than i think they should for my speed, and i can smell clutch...is this normal, as i know its not normal to floor it in 5th or 6th at cruising speed, im curious because in my lower gears it seems to pull pretty strong... but it may be slipping in them too, i just dont notice it as much. so i figure i need to start saving for a clutch...what clutch should i go with for an LTX car, on a serious budget, my car is mostly stock except for a few bolt-ons. what will it cost, how hard is it to do by your self...and all that jazz. lol

Yeah slipping is usually first noticed in the higher gears and it will still hold ok in the lower gears. You need a new clutch. Not a too hard job to do by yourself, if you have access to a vehicle lift its very easy.

Hotroddin, It can be done on Jack-stands but having done this once or twice years ago...I highly recommend using a lift. That being said, I am happy to assist you with the parts you need (or you can contact any of our dealers that are also forum sponsors for assistance as well).

I strongly suggest that you resurface your flywheel before installing the clutch as this will save you lots of time and frustration in the future. Let me know if you need anything else. Thanks,
