I agree that its wasn't anywhere near 165mph. They said it reached speeds of 165 though, not crashed at 165. Also, a stock LT1 6 speed vette will have no problems hitting 140+.

An LT1 6 speed Vette should be capable of 160mph stock. Even LT1 F-body will do about 155mph.

these are the same cops that insist that could tell you were doing 41 in a 35 without a radar gun.
