Default Has anyone ever launched an A4 in 2nd gear?? I did...

I always do my burnout in 2nd gear. Well I pull to the line and throw it in neutral and hit the throttle once or twice to clear it out. I normally put it in "D" and go. Well I guess I put it in 2nd by mistake. I launched from 2500 rpm. When the tree came down I tramped it. Well I was like WTF is wrong. It felt slugggish. I look down and see I was in 2nd. I ran it out and shifted into drive. I was suprised with my time slip. 11.44@121 with a 1.84 60'. I am sure this isn't good for the tranny or converter but you could launch on street tires and not spin..

Yea I have done that, It does feel alot slower. Most people think it goes from 1st to second if u have it in "2". I tried that on the street but I was too far into second for the car to downshift back to 1st, so I just went 2nd...3rd.

I have been known to do that on purpose in a streetrace. I used to pull low 1.5s starting in second with my 422.

Go ahead and talk about how I drive an auto. Looks like you should take driving lessons from 87TA. Next your gonna tell us that you forgot to hit the gas too. I mean really, how smart and coordinated do you have to be to put it in "drive" and go? Duh!

I took a friend from work for a ride in my car,(he's a Ford boy). And he kept commenting about the convertor being really loose . I stopped and put it into 2nd gear and stalled it to 4000 rpm. I thought he was going to **** himself,It was funny watching his face(he's also into bigblocks).

Well just to see what would happen i tried that again on the way home and launched it that way,all i did was spin like crazy and leave a very long pair of stripes in the road.

If I remember right, some of the ealier f-body's would still start in 1st gear if the selector was in 2nd. I'm thinking it changed to 2nd gear start in 2000, but my years could be off. I think it's supposed to be for "winter" driving so you don't spin in the snow.
