Default Vacation tips: Hoover Dam

Well, my Dad finally decided on our vacation spot. The owner of his company is going to fly us out there in his private jet. I'm not sure which airport yet.

We'll probably spend a day or so at the Dam (Power Plant Tour) and a day or so on the Vegas Strip. Any tips or advice on either?

Also, what else is there to do within driving distance? We'll have to rent a car, of course. Thanks for any suggestions.

Nice to fly on a private jet eh?

As far as the Hoover, get their early!!!!! Have fun and don't fall over the edge.

Vegas, there a lot of places besides the strip. Look up Fast Lap if you like go-carting, and I don't mean slow go-carts either(It's located just off the strip last time I was out there).

You can also go to the Grand Canyon if you have enough time.

Otherwise, is your friend.

Oh, yeah, I forgot to mention the Grand Canyon. It's about 6 hours away or so.

Default viva.... las vegas!!!

i have been to to las vegas, and if i had to do it all over again i would....
hit the strip, blow a few hundred bucks then, walk the strip till i found a rental place that has all the "BAD ***" cars. find one that i want to rent then work a deal, then drive to hoover dam and all other the scenic areas.then possibly do the helicopter fly over the damn. thats a few days worth of fun. then i would be READY to LEAVE cause after all that i probably would be BROKE!!!
by the way if you have a motorcycle lic. you can rent everything from a hog to a R1
have fun and enjoy!!!!!!!

I took the hard hat tour at the Dam found it very interesting, but I like history and seeing construction technics etc... I LOVE Vegas and just looking around is very entertaining to me as well as the gambling. I am not at BENR's standards LOL! But I usually do pretty good at the tables mainly BJ and Texas holdem etc... And of course the shows are good there, but a little pricey. GL! Have fun you will have a hard time not doing so.Jeff

I've been to Vegas area many times, stayed all over. If you only have a couple days, focus on the strip and run down to the dam since its a short ride. Making it to the south rim of the Canyon is a long day if you spend any time at all while there. Gives you a reason to come back if you don't make it to the Canyon this trip.

The West Rim of the Canyon is much closer to the dam, maybe another 2 hrs. That is where the Skywalk is. Pretty cool, went there this year. Tourist trap though, but well worth the view and much closer than the South rim.

X2 I can post pics of the Dam for you. Interesting place. But I would spend all my time in Vegas on the strip. Went in March and can't wait to go back in November.

When I googled the Grand Canyon from the Dam, it said 6 hours. I'll have to try to find how to get to the West Rim then.

Thanks for the tips, guys. We'll probably stay there 5 days or so. I was thinking that we should get there and go straight to the Grand Canyon, lodge there a day there or so, then swing by the Dam, and spend the rest of our time chillin' in Vegas.
