Hey guy's a question on head gasket does anyone know the thickness on gm performance part # 12498544 head gasket?????

well the other day my friend changed his lifters and we used a caliper and it messured on the old gaskets .053 and then we check the part number 12498544 on top and it messured .051 not compressed with the same caliper so who knows

you would really want to measure at the middle between the 2 cyls...this is where we have measure them and they come in at .056 to .059

but unless you are running into severe issues with milled heads, big cam, etc, then it really does not make much of a difference

I HAVE 243 HEADS ON A 5.3L AND I MILLED THE HEADS .040 AND I WANT TO GO WITH A SMALLER head gasket TO GET MORE COMPRESSION SO I WONT HAVE TO MILL THE HEADS ANYMORE WHAT DO YOU GUYS THINK OF A .040 GASKET OR SMALLER ???

i am not sure i would go anything smaller than a .040 gasket on much of anything. honestly if you do go thinner than a reg gm gasket, then you will still need to check clearances.

have you had the heads checked to see what your chamber size is now?

No i haven check the heads i what to go with a .040 gasket that should help i think THANKS FOR THE HELP GUYS

John I thought you check this same question a while back and it came in at around .053 thick

the graphite gasket which is 12498543 is the one that came in a .053 iirc.....the metal MLS ones which are 12498544 are thicker....unless i misposted. we did put the info on the website if i posted wrong, let me know and ill get it fixed
