Default Yank SS3600 or SS4000??

I can't make up my mind and would like any advice from people who have one or both of these.

Car:
2000 z28 Full weight car
12 bolt (has 3.73 and can swap in 4.10 if better)
full bolt ons
Motor:6.0L LQ9 with heads/cam
shift rpm will be 6500-6700 rpm (still picking cam)

*** I am contemplating hitting it with just a 100 shot, but won't be for a while**

Car will be a toy. Drive to cruise nights, to work once in a while, drag strip 3-5 times a year, beat on it hard on the street. Will still have good suspension for ripping corners and stuff too.

Concern is that SS4000 is too high for street driving AND would not work well with 100 Shot. Not sure if 3600 will be enough.

Thanks!

Depends on tire size too, but with a 100 shot you could probably use the SS4000. I think you have enough rpm, if not you can always delay the on point for the nitrous.

tires would be 26x11.5-16 ET Street

Will the converter be too high if I spray out of the hole or will it be too high all the time for the 100 shot?

Give Dave a call Im sure he'd be more than happy to talk it over with ya. I say go for the 4000 for your setup. I just put in the py3600 in mine and it drives like stock until you hammer it.

I just talked to him and he said that the 3600 would drop back to ~51-5200 rpm on the shifts and the 4000 would be around 5500 rpm or so. I am not sure if the new motor will be stought enough to only operate in a window of 5500-6500???? Still have to put the motor together, so I don't have any solid data yet.....

dropping down to 5200 shouldn't be too bad since it will only be about 25 hp or so below peak.

What RPM are you shifting at? What RPM is is at when it drops back into gear on a shift? Do you remember where it was on the SS3600 compared to now? My race weight will be a little heavier than yours.... Was 3783 with LS1 Alum 383 and M6, now will have Iron 6.0L and A4. It aint me being heavy either.... I am only 175#

I am still trying to find someone local so I can see how it is in person.
thanks

Let me know how that works out for you Chris. I just had your old converter rebuilt and I got the same goals as you.

I don't have interest in heads yet, i'll run the 10-bolt like you did till it breaks. No weight reduction for me yet either, other than that, i'm close to a copy cat.

That would be cool if you could tell me that. I would appreciate it. Thats around where Dave said it would be. I was just curious if only having an operating window of 1200 rpm would be enough. I was worried the spray would kick it up to only around 5800 or 6000 and then only have a 800 rpm window.

Where you located?
thanks

SS4000 hands down with your setup. With the 3.73's it'll be nice and tight for the street, but still give you some great performance. I ran one and liked it, but I wanted more of an all motor converter which is why I swapped to the PT4400. SS4000 is arguably the best converter for a street/strip car!

Can anyone tell me how I should launch with the SS4000? I'd think brake stalling it would be better than punching it, it won't shock the drive terrain or spin as much? What RPM should I try?

Yeah I launch it the same way as the ss3600 did…brake stall it up as high as it will go before it starts pushing through the front brakes, and then roll off the brake and into the gas at the same time, that is what has always worked best for both on my ss series stalls, flashing it gave around .1 higher 60fts…plus like you said the brake stall preloads the chassis so there is less unloading from the stock of initial hit…

I always had the best 60s stalling my old ss4000 up as high as I could, maybe around 2500-2600rpm but it was hit or miss on hooking.

You guys think I will be able to hook on a 26x11.5x16 Mickey ET Street?

Dumping the clutch at 6000 rpm with the M6 would get me a 1.63 60'.
I was hoping with the A4 and the stall it would drop the 60' and not shock the drivetrain as much. I would get a little bit of a spin before, but SOMETHING has to give on the M6, so better to spin a little than break stuff..... I have been through a few clutches, a drive shaft, and a rear end.... Its all bullet proof now!
