Default Replacing my transmission, question about converter.

Just bought a yank that killed my trans, the fluid has a nice dark tint to it. When I remove my trans and the converter do i need to empty and refill the converter or just check the fluid level and install it on the new trans?

Thank you guys.

So I just tip the bastard over to get everything out?

Or do I need to hold it a special way like those stupid glass ketchup bottles?

if you have debris in your blown trans you better have your verter cut & cleaned or it will take out your new trans .........

yea agree. Some tranny shops will clean it and flush it. Do that and then flush your tranny cooler to. To get all the debris out of it to. DONT TAKE ANY CHANCES

When i take it out, ill check the color of the fluid. Theres no chunks of anything just a slight tint to the fluid is all.

i would also purchase a can of cooler line flush to clean out your lines and cooler. and get the converter cut opened and cleaned. There is no point in having contaminated fluid go through your new trans

You say your stall killed your trans? Do you not have a cooler installed with it? Just curious.

Flushing everything is the best idea, although I dont know if the stall can be effectivly flushed without sending it in for a cut and clean. IMHO, its not worth the risk of replacing your NEW trans just because the stall may not be clean. When i did mine, i just ordered a new stall with it, since i needed it ASAP.

what ever went out on your old trans will leave small particles in the verter from your old trans,it will still be in your verter & cause your new trans to take a shyt also.......

cut & clean by a reputable verter shop is your only option to get it super duper clean so it does not take out your new trans.........

Sounds like the trans clutches went out and filled the converter with debris.
It would be best to send the converter in to be cleaned.
You can not get the trash out of the converter or clutch with out cutting it open
