Question Red Optima Battery on Battery Tender

My car is NOT a daily driver I am planning on keeping the new Optima battery on my battery tender plus trickle charger.

The guy at the parts store said he would not recommend the battery tender plus..something about the optima batteries not liking this type of trickle charger ?? Thats news to me.. This is the trickle charger I have. It's 12 volts and trickles at 1.25 amp, with an auto shut off. Was the guy at the auto part store wrong ??

I had my Optima Red on my Battery Tender while I had it...I went up in size to a 74/38 in a DieHard Platinum (still an AGM battery), and it is on it constantly with no issues.

I personally don't think it will be an issue for you at all.

My black and decker battery charger has it where you select which type of battery it is such as gel or agm. Never had problems keeping my Optima charged.

hmm.. ive been using my battery tender plus now for about 3 years wile ive been in the army. My optima sat on my tender for about 15 months wile i was deployed and probly for about a year and a half before that. I come home on leave every now and then and throw my optima into my car and it fires right up no charging issues at all. I dont think that sales guy knows what he was talking about.

I did some digging around on the Battery Tender website, and every one of their chargers can be used with AGM batteries (like the Optima Red Top) according to it. They do have contact info on their website, so if you are still concerned, give them a call.

Me? I wouldn't lose a bit of sleep over it...

I used one on my Red Top for 2 years with no problems. I changed to a Duralast Gold. I thought the Battery Tender was a float charger?
