The other one is way cool, but would requre me to move my amps and Xbox. Cowboy, I may just spring for the less refined one, mainly because I can keep my 12's. Much appreciated guys.

If you are looking for low frequency extension, you need to go with a ported design. In which case, with a pair of 12"s, I don't see you keeping your t-tops storage. Just get the biggest sealed box you can fit back there and still allow for t-top storage.

two jl12w6v2's, no space lost, uses the empty space like a bandpass to produce low frequencies. The sound is not affected by the ttops in the back. However if I completely load up the back with luggage the low frequencies suffer.

Uses the empty space like a bandpass to produce low frequencies? What do you mean? I can understand the transfer function of the car coming into play and it being a hatch back type design but what are you speaking of?

How low of frequencies are we talking about here also? I can play really low (I haven't tested the track but competitors say it's 18 hz) and I have a 12" Brahma mounted on the drivers side free-air with 275ish watts going to it. When the low notes start playing it will vibrate you in your seat and it sounds sweet.

If you want a car to go low, and I mean like 20's and 30's low, you need a lot of displacemnt (talking cone movement and cone area.) the power to push the lower frequencies so that our ears can hear it, and a box set up that allows the woofers to do those lower frequencies to name a few of the basic things you need. You'd be amazed at how much a woofer has to move to do 20 Hz at the same volume as 30 Hz when comparing the two.

Now, if you are talking like rap music when they go low then they are most of the times in the 40's and 50's and sometimes dip into the 30's and on some systems either they will fall flat on their faces and just not produce the 30's or they will do it but you can tell it's struggling to do it. Then there are the guys with two 15's, plenty of power, and plenty of room in their SUV to give them a big box and they can rock'in roll into those lower frequencies! :-)

Most people aren't going to need 20's and 30's low though. So, if you like to rock on out to rock'en roll, alternative and rap lets say, the 20's and low to mid 30's shouldn't worry you too much anyways. Check into the Image Dynamics Id 12 V.3, it would probably work out nice in those enclosures that you are thinking of. Oh, and even if you put a sub in a smaller enclosure than it's designed for it doesn't mean it will sound like crap, it will choke the lower frequencies off and can also give you more of a hike in frequencies a little higher up but some people prefer that sound so its' a toss up if it will be what you are looking for or not. Either way, I've heard good things about Image Dynamics subs so from what I hear you can't go wrong with them.

I know, I'm all over the place in this message but it's close to 6:00 and I'm typing this up before I'm getting off of work here and getting ready to go home. Have a good one and if I wasn't clear about something, just ask and I'll clarify.

What do you think of JL componets? I'm looking for bank for the buck here. I was thinking of running two seperate amps one for the front and one for the rears, becuse I'm not sure I'll even want to change the rear speakers at all, may just jam the front componets.

To the people asking about component sets I'd say your best bet would be to go and listen to some and hear which ones you like best.

There are going to be ones that sound better than others to me but it's what you like that's most important. Find places in your area to demo them at and bring along a good CD that you like (don't listen to radio) and listen away! :-)

I have heard good things about JL's upper end line of components but don't know what to say on their middle or lower line components.

On the Alpine deck question, don't know what to say on that, maybe somebody else knows more about Alpine's line of HU's and can answer that for you. Sorry, wish I could be of more help.
