Default Fastest production year for base model vette????

I am looking into getting a vette, really really wanted a z06 but can't even afford an 02 (the earliest model i will consider right now) so i am thinking of just settling for a base corvette, what year(s) (02 plus) was/were the fastest year(s)? or should i just keep looking for a z06? or should i consider an earlier z06 as opposed to a later base vette? thanks for any help!!!

The newer they became, the more power added. The LS2 C6s I believe are in the low 12s. The LS3s are even faster. Do a C5 ZO6 or base C6, then throw a blower on it.

You should be able to find some low mileage C5 Z06's that don't cost much, if any, more than "just" a base C5.

I agree with vetteJR on getting an FRC vette. You get the same body as a ZO6 but at a much cheaper price. I found my 2000 with 31,000 miles on it for 17,500 and it is in mint condition. So good deals are out there you just gotta look. Plus if you plan on modding you negate the benifeit of a ZO6.

Most LS2's are in the mid to high 12's. It's the LS3's that are the runners....

I'm looking for a '02-'04 Z06 myself, but I'm being REALLY picky.

If you can't afford a '02-'04 Z06, then get a '01. Even the '01 Z has alot on a base car to say the least.

Or as some said, if you wanna save the most you can get a '99/'00 FRC.

SSNISTR have you seen this car yet? it is at a dealership here in texas, i have bought several cars in fl around the ft. myers area and it wasn't too bad of a drive, so if this is something you might be interested in you might look into renting a car from hertz 'cause they do the 1 way rental where you can return their car in arlington and drive this one home! just an idea, i was looking at it, the reserve on it is 24,900, but in finding this out from the salesman, he said he was looking to get something "in the ballpark" of 24,900.. so you may give him a call, he said he would end the auction for the right offer, and it seems like a nice one!

to everyone else, thanks for all the info, but it seems like a frc is going to be hard to find!? if anyone knows of one for sale they could direct me/link me to i would appreciate it!

Save and get the cleanest 'Vette that crosses your path..

I have a mostly stock (hptuners/bolt ons) '01 Zo6 and it will destroy an '02+ any day of the week.

Like I said, get what you can.... and go from there.

hey guys that know your vette's what is the significance of a 99 corvette with checkered flag stitching on the console and white and black leather seats and all white gauges? is that a special version or is that the work of an individual? it looks very nice regardless.. it also has a little plaque thing below the radio, is this a rare car? here is a pic of the plaque.

You can order the plaques. Mid America sells them about $30.00

All that stiching and stuff is aftermarket.

What are your goals?

Drag racing? If so, you're going to mod the engine anyway so get a 99/00 FRC (as others have mentioned). it is light and looks badass but it will be a 6 spd.

Or get a 99 coupe with an auto.

You should be able to get either for no more than $16,000

Regardless, you can mod the hell out of the motor and make it a 10 sec car pretty easily.

Good luck with your search.

no auto trans for me, i know that the typical manual transmission driver (me included if i am honest with myself) can't outdo a modern automatic tranny for the most part, but there is just something in me that screams for a 6 speed! i will continue to search for a frc, but i am not having much luck as of yet.. thanks!
