Not sure what tyoe of 3 jaw puller you have. The Autozone 'chrysler type' harmonic balancer puller works very well on our cars. They rent it for free.

If you're swapping heads best thing to do is leave the power steering pulley on and remove the whole pump from the front of the motor. It shows how here:

As mentioned the puller from AutoZone works fine. I just used it a few days ago. The one I went to had 2 different sizes of the 3 jaw puller - make sure you get the big daddy. One you have it you'll need to detach one of the arms and then reconnect it once you have the puller in the center and ready to go b/c it's a tight fit and there was no way I could get all 3 arms in there without disconnecting one of them first. If the bolt it out then what are you pushing the pin of the puller against?

We used a 3 jaw puller, took bolt out and used a socket that went flush against the crank but fit inside the pulley hole and then a 25 cent (quarter) for something the threaded rod could sit flush on.

Sounds kinda hokey but it worked and to put on I bought a threaded rod and worked it on with washer and bolts.

its abitch but the dam thing will come off. Use a socketbetween the puller and the crank snout. it takes some time but keep at it and it will come out.

the smallest pulley puller from autozone works best , it is small enough to fit inside the balancer and grab it around it's core. whatever you do DON'T PULL IT BY IT'S LIP. i tried that becuase the puller i got the first time was too big to fit inside and broke it . so i went to autozone and got a new balancer and it literally exploded, shooting potmetal fragments all over my engine bay, which destroyed EVERYTHING, except my engine, phwew. moral to the story, dont pull it by the lip!
