Default pressure port an acurate place to measure trans temp

ive got my tranny temp sensor tapped into the pressure port on my 4l60 and im wondering how accurate it is. the heat in houston is friggin brutal, its supposed to hit 101* tomorrow, my tranns runs pretty hot even with the hayden cooler if im not on the freeway.

if the gauge is correct then its time for some changes, im not about to roast a brand new tranns. cooler weather it was never a problem, now its hot outside at 2 am.

nope i would recommend only in the pan the pressure port usually reads about 20* higher i live in FL and in traffic it gets to maybe 165 to 170 with A/C on and freeway about 140 but i also have the biggest B&M cooler available so that may also help alot

Gosh, I would have thought it would be cooler not hotter.
Either way it is usual to have the port in the pan or on the return line from the cooler.
Best of Luck to ya.

I have a guage in the PP and an aerospace guage that reads through the computer. I feel it is accurate BUT when the temp fluxuates the pp is slow to respond. Like if you make a pass at the track it won't go up much right away. It will take a few minutes but it will get there.

My own theory is it reads the trans case more than the fluid. But i also put teflon tape on my sensor and that maybe be hurting this too.

i bet your right about it reading the case, never thought of that. with the sensor in the pan its going to respond slowly too, the temp has to balance out in the fluid. Im thinkin the PP and and Aerospace is the best way, average overall with the gauge and internal temp with the aerospace. think im gonna sell my AF monitor and get an Aerospace, neighbors got one i like it.

I think the gauge you are referring to in an Aeroforce Interceptor. It is a great gauge and does not require a sensor to read transmission temp, it pulls that info. right from the OBDII port.

Yea sorry bout that i meant to put aeroforce guage. Easiest guage you'll ever hook up too. It was worth every penny in my eyes.

No problem, just wanted people to be able to find it. And I agree, worth every penny.

I have my sensor in the pressure port and I have HPTuners. The PP usually reads about 15 degrees cooler than the HPTuners gauge.

you talking about a small hex head plug? above the linkage towards the front of the car? if so thats the pressure port, if not, better description of said bolt?
