Default Rear window tint darkness?

Cliff notes. Wife had an accident yesterday at lunch I was two blocks away this is in college station. I have a crew cab short bed took it to a local shop and tinted the fronts as dark as you could legally 35%. Then had them lay a layer of 5% over the rear doors and back glass that was already the factory dark tint. We put the wife in the back seat of my truck to calm her down and get everything taken care of and the officer said that my back windows were to dark and I needed to get it taken care of. WTF is this, as far as I know only the fronts can't be darker than 35 % right? I've had double dark back glasses for years and never had anyone bother me about it. If you know post it up vey curious.

No limit for rear windows.

For 4 door passenger cars, the rear side windows must be 25% just as the front side windows.

Trucks and SUVs must have 25% for the front windows. No limit for all other windows.

On a truck.

On a car, all sides must be no lower than 25%. Thats to be legal of course. Alot of people go darker though.

You can do 5% on the rear sides, but depending on the area and cop... you might get hassled over it.

I thought some of these same things. I was pulled over by a DPS officer a few weeks ago and warned. I am actually legal, but I went to TXDOT to verify. According to TXDOT to pass inspection all windows must be 20% or lighter. The really stupid part is that further down the TXDOT page it states that traffic law states they all must be 25% or lighter. That was the first time I saw anything mentioned about the rear windows.
