Default What would make an LS1 run like crap without throwing a code

No check engine light, but there is a consistent "miss", the engine seems to run better when first started and gets progressively worse as it worms up. It feels almost like an ignition problem, surging, low power, etc...

Any ideas?

A friend of mine went around a corner the other day and dropped a plug wire. You might want to check the simple stuff first.

-Just CRAP gas. Occasionally it happens. perhaps try a fuel additive to help displace water and restore some combustibility. Just a thought.

-Fuel...Air...Spark. Check them all out

- Minor vacuum leak

Keep us posted

A dirty MAF will cause a car to run rough.

for how easy it is to do I would swap theplugs and the 02 sensors if you wanted to change something......... otherwise run that **** gas out and be sure to fill up with shell or bp next time. I had a problem like this upnorth when I filled up with a cornershitmarts' premium gas

Emptied gas right out....
And filled up again.
Quick question, can a bent valve make a car run like crap without throwing a code? I did rev it a lil high a few days ago...

Yes.

The motor isnt making any funny noises under the valve covers is it?

If plugs/O2's dont change anything, you might wanna pull the valve covers and check the push rods. A bent rod will not let the valve open all the way and cause runnng problems.

Hopefully its not that though, good luck.

I think I'm going to go get a compresson test.
But I'm pretty sure a bent valve whould throw a misfire code....

If you over-revved it, such as down shifting to 1st instead of 3rd and letting the clutch out, you could have a bent push rod. Pull the valve covers and rockers, take out the push rods and roll them on a surface plate. You should be able to tell if one is bent.

I dono, how high would it be if I shifted at 5000 rpm from third into 2nd...
A couple pushrods were bent, but the car seemed to run fine after replacing them.... The funny thing is though, this was before it started running like crap so I didn't bother posting about it in this thread.

Then all of a sudden I got in it, it wouldn't start, wouldn't even turn over. It was like the battery was dead... but the battery wasn't dead. I went and unplugged the aftermarket alarm, tried a few more times, car turned over and started.....
Now it runs like poo'....

No check engine light, no valvetrain noise, all the pushrods are fine as I went through them all.

Sounds like you got some bad gas, maybe with water in it? Cheap *** gas stations have all kind of crap like that...

Well I went out at lunch and picked up some 243 heads from Davenport Motorsports... I guess we'll see if it's a bent valve this weekend.
