Default The new 2010 FORD SHO

I never liked Fords much but have to say, as a previous owner of a 95 SHO and a 87 GN that these 3.0 SHO's had some ***** and big torque for only having a 3.0L Yamaha engine! LOL.I have actually beaten some LT1 F bodys with mine back in the day .Now ,that being said and the current owner of a 35th LE APS SS Camaro LOL i still peak over the fence so to speak on what Ford has going on with there SHO line of cars since being discontinued back in 98 i think ? To my surprise ,,,its coming back in 2010 (this fall) . Have any of you read up on it or checked out a brochureon one? I have this week and was ******* shocked The new Ford taurus (SHO) is putting out 365HP and 350 lb-ft of torque out of a 3.5L (EcoBoost) (TWIN TURBO) and is (ALL WHEEL DRIVE)to boot with a 6 speed select shift! You guys all remember the all wheel drive Syclones right ? Also being a former 87 buick GN owner too ,these were stupid fast with the all wheel drive. I think this SHO is really gonna be talked about once released and driven like the 3.8 turbo's were back in the day when they came out in 86 and 87 .I figuired ide give some of you (stock) F Body guys a thumbs up before you try one and get your feelings hurt LOL

My friend has three of the second gen's(94 body style) and he has been raving about this one I think they are pretty sweet cars but for the price you can buy a G8 and turbo it and have a ton more fun. His SHO cost almost as much as my fully loaded top of the line 2001 WS6 and his is seven years older.

It will be crazy expensive the first year or two, then prices will fall and us normal folks will start picking them up and modding them. But yeah, a turbo G8 is more my cup of tea.

I work at a Ford dealership. Service writer....

This new SHO is gonna be a bad ************. I think with a few tweaks its gonna be a G8 killer... it might just be in stock form.

Hopefully it doesnt step on the GT stang too much.... we all saw what happened with the GN once it stepped on the Vettes toes.

I had really, really high hopes, but ford dropped the ball.
Stock sized brakes that die in a hurry (reviews mention them actually smoking!), WAY heavy, 60/40 weight distro, and not very impressive handling (.84 on the pad). Needs a lot of mods to hang with the G8 GT/GXT, especially given that optioned out it comes in at 45k+.

I was ready to place an order for a 2012 model, but not now, unless they fix some stuff. The new Taurus is a good looking car though.

At 4400 Lbs it is way too heavy even if it has a good motor.

I think it looks awesome for a 4 door performance car. It is no CTS-V but very comparable to the G8GT.

I think it's appealing for a family sedan....initial tests have it running 13.7 at 103 MPH. I'll bet there's lots of potential as well once tuners get ahold of it. I found a blurp from Motor Trend that I found interesting:

"The engine runs safely and reliably on regular unleaded, but peak horsepower drops a bit. Torque does not drop on regular fuel -- or on Pemex, or at altitudes of 10,000 feet, or during incredible heat and humidity, or if Mercury's retrograde (which it must be -- there's no more Sable). That's because this over-testosteroned beast desperately wants to make way more than 350 pound-feet, but the powertrain controller reins it in as early as 1500 rpm to protect the driveline and maintains 350 to 5000 rpm (that peak rev range narrows under extreme conditions). Ford claims that this butte-eous torque curve gives the SHO a big real-world advantage over its V-8 rivals in the 1000-3000-rpm range where so much real-world driving takes place. Goose the gas and EcoBoost can often clamp the wastegates shut and build sufficient torque to deliver the desired acceleration without a noisy downshift, so it seems more relaxed."

Find a way to tune it and I'll bet we see some nice gains....and what the limits of the rest of the car are! If it was a choice between this and the G8 though, G8 without question.

Overpriced and overweight IMO.

I paid 27K for a brand new '09 G8GT with sport and premium, you can tune them and add parts to make G8s faster as well. The ford does have a nicer interior though from the pics I seen, the G8 is OK inside but its kind of taxi-cabish to me, great seats though. A blast to drive around here with all the mountain roads, shame Pontiac couldnt get another year or two to improve them.

Don't forget that a boost controller and some 93 octane tuning does wonders for any stock turbo vehicle. I would venture a guess, with race gas, higher boost, intake, exhaust, and some really good tuning that this baby will run low 12's@114ish

1/4 mile isn't everything though, and the competition has it whooped in everything else

I would have to agree there, not because I own a G8 and think its better, but the SHO almost looks like a crossover SUV - that thing is huge.

But its really kind of moot since G8 production has stopped and GM will probably not buld another RWD sedan again. So the SHO's main competition will be an SRT Charger and not the G8.

But the Ford technology is there, I have a little turbo direct injected 2.0L Audi A4 I use as a beater and the gas mileage and power for a tiny little engine is impressive. Granted its a little sad that a lumbering 6.0 pushrod V8 can knock down 24+mpg and that high tech twin turbo, direct injected V6 SHO cant. But the SHO is 400lbs heavier and AWD so Ill cut it some slack..

i'm sure tuning won't be a problem on these.

It's the limit of the fuel system I am more concerned with, and the slow time for the aftermarket to catch up with larger injectors.
