4in exhaust
I'm putting 4in exhaust on my car and I'm wondering what muffler has the best sound. I hate the rasp the car has now with the flowmaster. I loved my TSP X w/true duals on my WS6 but with the BMR extreme torque arm, I can't run dual 3". that and I really don't want it that loud. I was thinking about a bullet muffler before the axle, then a cut-out and a magnaflow after the axle. Is anybody running a set-up like this? I searched for sound clips but could not find any. Any input is greatly appriciated.
Thanks in advance.

I helped my buddy do this on his formula. He was wanting the power without the rasp. What we did was put a flowmaster y merge 3" inlets to 4" outlet then a dynomax 12" bullet. We didn't even run it over the axle because of his funding at the time. Let me tell you it sounds awesome! Nice deep tone and when floored it gets loud but sounds sexy as hell. No rasp whatsoever. I would do it this way and if it's a little loud for you just run it over the axle and split out into two tips that should quiet it down a little more. The key is the Flowmaster merge!

My current setup is ARH headers with a 3" Y with a flowmaster merge into a 4" over-the-axle, then goes into a single 4" inlet/dual 3" outlet magnaflow and dumped off the muffler. SOunds wicked!
It is pretty loud but I had pipes out the back and it was pretty tame, just too much weight and with my car being lowered with a 9" it was a little too much.
x2 on the flowmaster merge...just dont use their mufflers

why not just run the flowmaster merge into a 4" cutout and then reduce to 3" and out the back. When you want the performance of having the 4" you can just open the cutout. And when you want quiet close it. I am probably siding with this idea because I have it but I am telling you that if the cutout is closed you cant hardly hear the car running if the windows are up. BTW I have magnaflow catback and it sounds pretty b.a.

Magnaflow here
I've got the Magnaflow that came with my Mufflex 4" system. Sounds very nice and mellow at idle, but screams at WOT. No rasp whatsoever.
Did a nice little writeup after I got it all together.

Okay, so I need to get the flowmaster merge. I already have a hooker (I think) 3" y-pipe and I have the 4" piping going over the axle. The 4" is not installed yet, because there is no muffler and the cops here can be dicks. Sorry for the newb question but my computer screen is not the best, Can I put the flowmaster mege on the end of my y-pipe or do they make the dual 3" to 4" merge? Does anybody have any pics of a single 4" into dual 3" muffler on a trans am. My car is lowered about 1.5 in the back and I have a 9" rear.
