Default Question on SLP lid

I'm getting a good deal on a used SLP lid. But before I buy it I had a question, rumor has it that they have been "re-designed" to not rub under the hood. How can I tell if this one is the new design or old? Thanks

Can you PM a picture of it? I had an old one which I bought (then sold it when I got my K&N FILPK) and it rubbed like hell. I really liked everything about the lid except that it rubbed

I've had SLP lids on 2 different cars & neither rubbed.
(Stock Z28 hoods)
I wonder if your old lid was installed incorrectly.

Well it's an SS so the is different. It's a lid, how can you F- it up. 2 clamps and slides into place. I know the SLP lid was known for rubbing on hoods.

They only rubbed on hoods if they weren't pushed back far enough. The lip actually goes on the inside of the base. Mine was a factory option on my SS and it rubbed until i loosened up the bellows, and MAF, and slid it back far as it would go.

Every single SLP lid I've seen rubbed. And they rubbed on every f-body car...Z28, SS, T/A. Yes they were installed correctly.

Back to the original question. I have no idea what the "re-designed" one looks like. Call SLP and ask them to tell you what the difference is.

That or just look for a different lid, there are always used MTI's on here.

Installed mine about a year ago. NO sign of rubbing at all. I really paid attention because I was worried too.

I do not know if visually you can tell the 're-designed' SLP lid from the previous ones.

I have the 're-designed' SLP Lid. It seems like it uses a different type of plastic, but I believe it was constructed to have a more complete seal. I know I spent nearly an hour with a hair dryer to get the lid neck to seal around the MAF.

It is a pretty tight fit with the air filter also.

As far as rubbing..mine does not.

I agree there is no 'magical' lid. I'm happy with it, but you probably can not go wrong with any of the big-name lids.

Mine rubs a little, not enough that I've ever considered replacing it.

I have to agree. Mine doesn't rub at all. Also the lip of mine isn't on the inside of the base and the clips don't come off. I think all SLP lids have seal issues either way because air escapes out the back.

I also heard that they redesigned it but I'm not sure how to tell the difference between an "old" one and a "new" one.
