Default LS6, Z06 cam

I am going to install this cam and I heard I should get a new timing chain? And heard something about a ported oil pump? I need to know which timing chain I should get (car has 86000 miles, its a 98)? And also should I get, or do I need to get a ported oil pump? Thanks....Todd

I dont think either are required......if you want, just replace the chain alone and not the sprockets...

I dont think the ported pump is nessesary either....both arent bad ideas though...

I honestly dont think the LS6 cam is worth the time it takes to install. You can get a 224ish cam and have it be just as streetable with about 30+ more RWHP. With the mods in my sig I made 339 RWHP and 335 RWTQ. Headers should make about 25 or so HP, then theres tuning, and you can get one MAYBE to 380 RWHP. But stick a 224ish cam in there with the same other mods and you're around 400. Just my $.02

I don't know, I've seen some pretty impressive numbers on that cam, with stock manifolds even.....

Well if there was another cam that would produce more power than the LS6 cam, wouldnt need a tune, and wouldnt be noticeable, I would get it instead. But from what I am told, that may be kind of hard to come by.

I got my cam with everything installed for $575,parts and labor. That almost the price of a 224 by itself.Without valve springs, install ect.I couldn't beat this deal.I am very happy with this cam.

With 98 oil pumps known to go out out different cars, I would definately change it. I Would change the chain as well if you can. Cause once one get in there to take off the oil pump you can put the chain on it at the same time instead of doing it twice later on.

Your car only made those numbers because your A/F ratio is 15:1. I saw the graph you posted. I put that cam in a 02 WS6 M6 and with only FLP headers with cats, Corsa cat back, a lid, and a ASP pulley, it made:

STD:
386 RWHP
375 RWTQ
SAE:
378 RWHP
367 RWTQ

I agree, those numbers are way low for you cam and other mods. I made 371 with the LS6 cam, pacesetter headers MTI lid and cutout. No other mods, except for tuning by MTI. Not even exhaust. I'm sure with an ASP pulley and ported TB I would have been at about 385.

Yeah, thanks guys. I'm starting to realize that this cam is not the big ***** I thought it was. I think after a good Ed Wright tune and my LT's, I should be around 360-370. Im still not sure why my car runs so lean.
