Hey guys, I've got an 01 Firebird Formula, automatic with an ls1. I keep blowing alternators after a few weeks. Over winter I had an undercharging problem and I replaced the battery with an Optima red top, a new AC Delco alternator and even the PCM with a reman GM that I programmed at work (Chevy dealership). The problem never seemed to get much better until I completely removed my sound system but now I keep blowing the alternator, i believe its the diodes... I have checked all wires including the starter feed, chargeback wire and even the Generator L-Terminal circuit thats a 10v signal wire from the PCM to alternator and everything checks out. No loose or corroded connections and the PCM is commanding a 10v signal to the alternator to turn on. Only electrical mods is an in-dash Pioneer tv (thats been in for years with no problem), O2 simulators and an SLP maf sensor. I'm about to put another AC Delco alternator in it today at 5 after work. Anyone ever had any similar problems or have any advice? Thanks in advance for any help!!!

Are your power steering pump, reservoir or lines leaking?

GM did a bad move by putting the alternator on the bottom.

you might want to check the block to body grounds, and possibly a power wire from the battery to the alternator, that would be my only guess, that will cause your undercharging problem too! check the ground completely X2. you might have a short to, would cause the problem. any other questions PM me.
