Stereo & Electronics - Alternator ???

Hey Guys.. I'm running alot of electrical power and my optima battery is under alot of stress. The factory LS1 alternator is starting to give out on me. Can anyone tell me where the best place to purchase a good amp alternator? Thank You !!!

Try Dominick Irraggi's alternators. I've used several of his work for many many customers. Also look into Mean Green, Ohio generator, and others.

I got my alternator from Alterstart.biz. The only complaint i have is that the alternator is bigger than the stock one. I got the 200amp and it cuts into the lines that come out of my steering rack. The first time it sheared off the stud on the back of the alt, and the second time it cut a hole in mty power steering hose. I just need to do some fab work on it once i get my torque arm again and its driveable. Had to also send it back to them because it was charging way too much when i first got it. I run my amp, subs, n20, and a hotwire from my fuel pump to my alternator and it hasn't had any signs of stress from the power.

Also note that with HO alternators the pulleys are generally smaller. Even on the ones using the same case as the stocker. You may have to switch out your serpentine belt to be about a 1/4 to 1/2 inch shorter depending on the difference of pulley diameter. This will also make it obvious if your tensioner pulley is worn, you will sometimes get belt squeeling on hard shifts or heavy, immediate acceleration if it is.

I've been reading a little about atlernator alternatives.

is it true that 9 out of 10 rebuilt alt. will fail?

meaning don't even concider a rebuilt alt?

this is the on I have picked out however the add doe'nt mention it being new so I'm assumming it's just a rebuilt.

knu's wires are EXCELLENT but for the price I'm skeptical of the alts they sell. Ohio Gen, Mean Green, Irraggi, all of those are proven solid alternators. If you want to play, you HAVE TO PAY. so don't be thinking that you can cheap out on the alternator.

Yeah, rebuilt alts with only smaller pulleys are destined to overheat and fail. You want something 100% new. The above three companies are tried and true, I've used them in competitor's cars. You want to go with the best. You wouldn't buy turnkey bored motor from a guy off ebay, right?
