Talking Just ordered some heads. What gaskets to get though?

Just ordered some LS6 heads from Texas Speed and Performance
I have a question though...What head gasket should I use if it is going on a 5.3L truck engine? TexasS+P said to use the graphite gasket. I heard the Multi Layer Steel gasket was the way to go though. Is there some difference between the 5.3L block and the LS6 heads that I need to use the graphite gaskets? (I thought I read something about a coolant passage???) Which head gasket of those two (graphite or MLS) would be best for boost?

Thanks for clearing that up

I've used both. I used the steel shim ones this last time since they were a little cheaper. Both of them are good gaskets. Congrats on the heads! What cam are you going to run?

Cometic and gm both make an mls head gasket. Cometic has had problems with leaks on some cars though. The FelPro's are a good choice, and are only like 22 a piece from autozone.

Thanks for the replies guys. So should I get the graphites for a 5.3L or in a 5.7L bore size. I was thinking 5.7L (99mm bore) since they are 5.7L heads. Does that make sense?

Gomer I will be running a small cam for those heads (the '02 LS6 cam) I am boosted though, so these heads should allow me to run tons of unrestricted boost. I went low on the duration for easy tunning and driveability. oh yeah the cost was 1/2 that of a Lingenfelter GT-2 cam also

Get the multi layer aluminum gaskets. If you ever have to pull the heads for some reason, they are a LOT easier to deal with. Practically ZERO cleanup. If you run graphite, you'll spend 2 hrs scraping that crap off the block if the heads are ever pulled again. You never know whats going to happen, so i'd run the lower maint. gasket. JMO
